Tree House Program Descriptions

Child Services Program

Accredited by the National Children’s Alliance, The Tree House offers a child focused approach to providing services for abused children and their non-offending family members. The Child Services Program helps to reduce additional trauma to the child, begin the healing process, and increase agency communication and understanding of child abuse cases. Services include forensic interviews, forensic evaluations, child and family advocacy, victim assistance, crisis counseling, Hero’s Great and Small (Child Victim Support Group), The Rock, (Non-Offending Caregiver Support Group), Teen Sexual Survivor Group. Services are supported through United Way of Northeast Georgia, Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia, Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, National Children’s Alliance and local contributions.

Family Services Program

Perhaps the most important job in the world is a parenting. Using national prevention models, The Tree House offers the necessary tools and resources to equip parents to be empathetic and nurturing, thus reducing the incidence of abuse and neglect. The Family Services Program provides support and education to prenatal families, parents of newborns, parents of children entering kindergarten, and parents of school aged children. Program such as Healthy Families Barrow, First Steps Program, Group and Home-Based Nurturing Programs (pre and post natal), Parent Support Groups, Teen Parenting Programs, Assessments and Referrals are among the services available. Services are supported through Children’s Trust Fund Commission, Department of Family and Children Services-Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program, and local contributions.

Piedmont Visitation Program

The Piedmont Visitation Program is newest program offered by the Tree House and is funded in part by a grant from Department of Family and Children Services-Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program. Children in foster care whose parents are working a case plan for reunification are provided the opportunity to have regular visits with their parents and siblings in a neutral and nurturing environment. Currently, Piedmont Visitation Program serves Jackson County DFCS families through a partnership with Commerce Presbyterian Church in Commerce, GA and Barrow County DFCS families through a partnership with the Winder Wesleyan Church. Volunteers from the church and local community supervise the visits and provide snacks and activities for the families to enjoy. Through visitation, parents are motivated to continue their work towards reunification, while children benefit when this parent-child bond is nurtured during their time in foster care.

Community Outreach and Education

As a Charter Council of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and a member of the Children's Advocacy Center's of Georgia, The Tree House is the only organization in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit providing educational resources and training on child abuse issues. Programs include Pinwheels for Prevention (Child Abuse Prevention Month Activities), Someone To Talk To Puppet Show for Barrow County 2nd graders, Professional Development and Training, and Speakers Bureau.
